Recently a national television celebrity sued in court saying he was unaware how selling his life insurance policy in the secondary market would affect him in the future. He sold a total of $15m insurance policy to a life settlement provider for $1.4m. 

The celebrity said he was misled as to how the sale affected his future insurability. Now he has difficulty purchasing additional insurance for estate planning purposes because he has used up his capacity. This is disappointing and could have easily been avoided. The validity of his claim will play out in court, but there is a tremendous lesson for all financial professionals who use life settlements as an exit strategy. Read the rest of this entry »


Washington Senate Passes Settlement Legislation

The Washington state Senate adopted legislation to regulate the life settlement market. The bill included a provision requiring carriers to let people know that a life settlement, along with lapsing or surrendering, are options for exiting unwanted policies. SB 5195, which was overwhelmingly approved by the Senate recently, would regulate life settlements for the first time. The state currently only regulates viaticals. Read the rest of this entry »

You may not give your tongue much thought, but chances are your doctor does. “Telling a patient to stick out their tongue is a valid way to start examining someone,” says Dr. Jordan S. Josephson, attending physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and author of Sinus Relief Now (Perigee, 2006). “In fact, in Chinese medicine they believe that the tongue actually reflects all the diseases of the body.” If you have a mystery tongue problem, Josephson recommends going to see a board certified otolaryngologist (more commonly known as an ear, nose, and throat specialist). Staying on Target with the Life Settlement Market

Seasons Change! The Life Settlement Market is thawing! Winter is ending and spring will be here soon!

In November many providers were looking for capital.  Many of them only had established credit lines available, and they were nearing capacity.  One provider shared they were actively prospecting for capital for the first time in six or seven years.

Last week one of largest providers in the industry visited our office.  They were sharing their excitement for the number of new capital sources contacting them daily who were interested in investing in the asset class.  They have contracts in place with two of the capital sources, and will have them online in the coming weeks.  They also believe they will have two or three more contracts very shortly.

We have seen an increase in offers from multiple providers over the last four weeks.  Many of these offers are coming from providers who were not active in Q4.  Read the rest of this entry »
